'Scotland is a must-see destination for riders and for four wheels! You may get thoroughly soaked, sure, but what a joy to rack up the miles on the North Coast 500, starting from the lovely city of Edinburgh, via Inverness and the famous Loch Ness, then Thurso, Bettyhill and Ullapool.
The Highlands are a land of tradition, with their clans, lochs and castles (Braemar, Balmoral, Inveraray, Eilean Donan...). Whisky is part of Scotland's heritage, with close to a hundred active distilleries, notably in the Speyside region.
If the Trossachs and Cairngorns national parks are a feast for the eyes, what about the islands... There are nearly 800 of them, spread across the Shetlands, Orkneys and Hebrides. The stunning Isle of Skye lies in the Inner Hebrides, with roads and landscapes to take your breath away! Its neighbor, Mull, is very beautiful too.
Not far from Glencoe, the beautiful Sky Fall Rd was used as a filming location for a certain James Bond. And speaking of cinematic icons, don't miss the detour to Glenfinnan to admire the famous viaduct, dear to Harry Potter fans...
Southern Scotland is too often overlooked by travelers for lack of time. Yet it's a true delight for riders: winding, lightly trafficked roads, rolling green hills, open valleys and wild coasts. Every bend is a pleasure. From the Scottish Borders to Dumfries and Galloway, you'll link up scenic backroads, characterful villages, and stops by the sea or at ruined abbeys.
As for Glasgow, birthplace of Simple Minds, it's now a culturally and economically dynamic city. Just a short ride south, on the magnificent coast of Ayrshire, Culzean Castle is a superb fortress perched atop a cliff.
