Riding the West: San Francisco

Free day to get a feel for Vegas, the city that never sleeps.

You either love it or hate it, but you have to live the experience at least once in your life.

The Bellagio fountains, the canals of The Venetian, the giant aquarium at Mandalay Bay or the roller coaster at New York - New York are just a few of the many options available to you...

Not to mention Downtown Vegas, with the legendary Golden Nugget and the famous Fremont Street. Unless you opt for shopping in the outlets and the many luxury stores!

Transfer to the rental agency around 4:00 pm for the final formalities and motorcycle pick-up, before returning to your hotel on the Strip.

In the evening, we recommend attending a Cirque du Soleil show (contact us for the program on your dates).

Overnight in Las Vegas on the Strip.

You saddle up and leave the lights and noise of Las Vegas behind to rediscover the peace and serenity of the Western parks.

Head for the road along Lake Mead, leading to the beautiful Valley of Fire State Park.

Located just a short distance from Las Vegas, it is the largest park in Nevada, with stunning mineral scenery (arches, petroglyphs, canyons...) and typical desert flora and fauna.

Riding among the multicolored sandstone formations is a real pleasure.

Continue to Utah and Zion National Park. Arrival in Springdale, at the park entrance.

Overnight in Springdale.

Start the day with the magnificent Zion - Mt Carmel scenic road, offering breathtaking views over Zion.

Stop after the tunnel to walk to Zion Overlook, a sensational viewpoint.

Continue to Cedar Breaks National Monument, a kind of mini Bryce Canyon with its red sandstone amphitheater.

The route then winds through Dixie National Forest, past Panguitch Lake, before descending to Panguitch.

The final stretch follows Highway 12 via beautiful Red Canyon (you will ride under its arch) to the entrance of Bryce Canyon National Park.

If time allows, cross the park from north to south by motorbike before returning to your hotel.

Get up early to enjoy a walk in the Bryce Canyon amphitheater, among the famous “hoodoos”, those red sandstone spires that make the park unique.

Head for Scenic Byway 12, one of the most beautiful roads in the country! You will cross the wide open spaces of the Grand Staircase - Escalante National Monument.

Plan a small detour to Kodachrome Basin, with its sandstone chimneys in shades of red and orange.

Stop at Escalante Petrified Forest State Park. Not very crowded, you will find specimens of petrified wood there.

This fabulous road then takes you up to nearly 3,000 m in altitude, with views stretching 60 km in every direction, before descending to Torrey, at the gateway to Capitol Reef National Park.

Ride along Capitol Reef National Park, near the “Waterpocket Fold”, a 160 km-long mountain ridge formed by a fold in the Earth’s crust.

Short detour to Fruita, home to beautiful rock formations.

Head toward the eastern end of vast Lake Powell, then continue to the Moki Dugway.

The place is breathtaking: the Valley of the Gods stretches endlessly below.

The switchbacks descending to the valley floor are unpaved (but rideable).

Final stop at Gooseneck State Park, offering superb views over the meanders of the San Juan River, before reaching Mexican Hat.

Overnight in Mexican Hat (or Monument Valley, facing the mesas – supplement applies).

Cross the mythical Monument Valley, in Navajo territory, dear to John Ford and John Wayne.

This photogenic site has been immortalized by Hollywood: Stagecoach, Once Upon a Time in the West, Easy Rider, Thelma & Louise, and Forrest Gump!

As Valley Drive is closed to motorcycles, the guided excursion is done by pickup truck.

Continue to Page, on the shores of Lake Powell. You enter Arizona, which does not observe daylight saving time — you gain one hour.

Head to Antelope Canyon, in Navajo land.

Antelope is a “slot canyon”: a spectacular sandstone corridor carved by erosion, with stunning light and colors.

Guided visit with a Navajo guide (included).

Stop at Horseshoe Bend, one of the most photographed bends of the Colorado River.

Continue to the king of canyons, the Grand Canyon, entering from the south.

Up to 1,500 m deep and 445 km long, this natural wonder offers magnificent viewpoints along Desert View Drive.

Arrival at Grand Canyon Village.

Early risers should not miss the sunrise over the Grand Canyon, an unforgettable sight!

Head to Williams, on iconic Route 66, the “Mother Road”.

Williams was the last town bypassed when Route 66 was decommissioned in 1984.

Its Main Street is lined with motels, vintage signs, old gas stations and diners.

After Seligman and Hackberry, arrive in Kingman.

Overnight in Kingman.

Final stretch on Route 66, including the dramatic switchbacks of the Black Mountains via Sitgreaves Pass.

Oatman is a small Far West-style town where wild burros roam freely.

Leave Route 66 and head to Death Valley National Park, eastern California.

Before reaching Furnace Creek, take a detour via Artists Drive, famous for its colorful rock formations.

Overnight in the heart of the park.

Early morning detour to Zabriskie Point to enjoy the sunrise.

You then cross Death Valley and its dramatic landscapes along one of the most beautiful roads in the country.

Gradually leave the desert behind as you approach the Sierra Nevada, which you will follow along its eastern slopes.

Suggested lunch stop in Lone Pine, starting point for climbers heading to Mount Whitney (4,421 m), the highest peak in the USA outside Alaska, or further on in Big Pine.

After Bishop, arrival in Mammoth Lakes, a pleasant mountain resort at the foot of the Eastern Sierra (ski area in winter).

Continue to beautiful Lake George.

Overnight in Mammoth Lakes.

Head to Mono Lake, famous for its “tufas”, impressive limestone formations rising from the lake’s salty waters.

Optional detour to the ghost town of Bodie, one of the best preserved in the country, then continue to Yosemite National Park.

Subject to opening, you will enter via the spectacular Highway 120 over Tioga Pass. Yosemite is a paradise for nature lovers, with its lakes, waterfalls and granite domes such as Half Dome or El Capitan.

Overnight near the park (El Portal, Mariposa, or Oakhurst, among others). Possibility to stay inside the park (subject to availability / supplement applies).

Begin this final stage along the historic Golden Chain Highway, reminiscent of California’s 19th-century Gold Rush.

Pass through charming towns such as Jamestown and Jackson.

Head to Mount Diablo, then continue to Berkeley and Oakland.

In Alameda, visit the aircraft carrier USS Hornet.

Cross the bay via the Bay Bridge before arriving in San Francisco. You keep the motorcycle until the next afternoon.

Overnight in San Francisco.

Ride across the Golden Gate Bridge for superb views over the bay. Motorcycle drop-off in the late afternoon.

Alcatraz, Fisherman's Wharf, a ride on the cable car, the curves of Lombard Street, views from Coit Tower... The options are endless!

Nearby the famous Painted Ladies, Haight-Ashbury is the birthplace of the Hippie culture.

Mission and Castro are two of our favorite neighborhoods, near vast Golden Gate Park.

Overnight in San Francisco.

Depending on your flight schedule, enjoy some free time in San Francisco.

Transfer to the airport.

Return flight to Europe. Arrival the following day.
