Japan is not limited to manga nor to the neon lights of its great metropolises. Nor is it limited to the magnificent but short cherry blossom season.
Mountains are everywhere. The so-called "Japanese Alps" cover 70% of the territory. And the country has more than 600 ski resorts!
On this archipelago of nearly 6,000 islands, many of which are uninhabited, Honshu is home to the major cities of Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Kobe and Hiroshima. You'll find many small historic villages there, such as Shirakawa-go and Gokayama, with their beautiful thatched houses. Or Takayama, the "Little Kyoto", or Ine, a charming fishing village with wooden houses (the "funayas") set on the water's edge. As for Mount Fuji, it's one of the country's emblems. A land of volcanoes, Japan has 34 national parks!
The imperial city of Kyoto concentrates an impressive number of temples, shrines and superb gardens.
For riders, a visit to Motegi and the Honda Collection Hall is unmissable. Other brands from the Land of the Rising Sun have their museums too, like Yamaha or Kawasaki... Japan is full of dream roads.
Riding the high-speed train Shinkansen from Tokyo to Osaka, which can reach 320 km/h, is a must.
In the north of the archipelago, Hokkaido stands out for its microclimate and wild nature.
Shikoku is considered by some to be the most beautiful island: for its landscapes, for the 88 temples of the Kobo-Daishi pilgrimage, for Marugame Castle, for the hot springs of Kotohira... And for its gastronomy. An extraordinary journey, where the art of living is sacred.
