Louisiana, Plantations & Bayous

In the morning, depart for an emotional and fascinating visit of Laura Plantation. 

Continue along the Plantation Road and pass by the famous Oak Alley Plantation, a superb mansion shaded by its century-old oaks.

Next, visit Nottoway, whose impressive building reflects the region’s prosperity before the Civil War. Lunch at the plantation.

Drive to Baton Rouge, capital of Louisiana. Brief city tour including the Capitol and the famous Louisiana State University, which plays a major role in the local economy and oversees the Rural Life Museum, which you will visit. This open-air museum retraces life in the early 19th century. Check in at the hotel.

Dinner and overnight in Baton Rouge.

This morning, depart for the charming village of St Francisville, on the edge of Louisiana and Mississippi. Visit the magnificent Rosedown Plantation, with gardens inspired by those of Versailles.

Lunch in Saint Francisville.

Head to Natchez, in the neighboring state of Mississippi. 

This is a city full of charm, quintessentially Southern, whose center has preserved beautiful 'antebellum' mansions (from before the Civil War).

The upper district offers sweeping views over the Mississippi River, while 'Under the Hill', the small riverside area, is home to a few great restaurants and typical bars.

Dinner and overnight in Natchez.

This morning, visit Frogmore Plantation, the only cotton plantation still operating, for a tour that is both historical and modern, tracing how cotton work evolved from the early 18th century to today.

Head to Lafayette, in the heart of Cajun Country, where we will have lunch. 

In the afternoon, visit Lafayette , including the Cathedral and the Old Oak Tree. A little farther away, in the vast Atchafalaya Basin, you may board a swamp boat (flat-bottom boat) to explore the giant bayous (optional activity), home to alligators.

Back to Lafayette  and free time before dinner. Enjoy a typical dinner in a 'Fais Dodo'. You'll taste Louisiana specialties in a relaxed atmosphere, to the rhythm of Cajun and zydeco music.

Depart for Saint Martinville, a small town nicknamed in the 19th century the 'Little Paris' for its Europe-inspired layout. Here you'll hear the story of Evangeline...

Lunch.

Depart for Avery Island, along the Gulf of Mexico. Visit the famous Tabasco Factory, producer of the iconic hot sauce, then head to the beautiful exotic garden of Avery Island, a sanctuary for many bird species.

We drive on to Morgan City, world capital of the shrimp, before reaching Houma in the late afternoon.

In the morning, enjoy a short boat ride through the surrounding marshes , the famous bayous, where you may meet a few 'crocrodries'—the local nickname for the region’s alligators .

Depart for Thibodaux, with its wide prairies and sugarcane fields.

Continue through the landscapes of the Terrebonne marshes, then lunch.

Drive to New Orleans.

In the afternoon, enjoy a city tour of the beautiful Creole city and its distinct neighborhoods, including the leafy Garden District, where you'll take the famous Streetcar Named Desire to reach the hotel, or the festive and musical 'Frenchmen Street'...

Dinner and overnight in downtown New Orleans.

Start your day with a guided walk in the legendary French Quarter, a true journey back in time.

Explore the lively French Market, be amazed by the majestic St. Louis Cathedral, and admire the Cabildo, a remarkable 18th-century Spanish building steeped in history.

Lunch downtown, then a free afternoon.

Stroll at your own pace through the lively streets, head to the Riverwalk where you'll find the fascinating Audubon Aquarium. Or browse small boutiques, or let yourself be carried away by the sound of jazz in the air. A perfect day to fall in love with New Orleans.

Dinner at leisure to enjoy your last evening in Louisiana.
